Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

State-of-the-art ICU with advanced life support, continuous monitoring, and specialist intensivists.

1 About This Service

Our Intensive Care Unit provides the highest level of medical care for critically ill patients requiring continuous monitoring and life support. The ICU is staffed by dedicated intensivists — specialist physicians trained in critical care medicine — supported by a high nurse-to-patient ratio (1:2 or better).

All ICU beds are equipped with multi-parameter bedside monitors, mechanical ventilators, infusion pumps, and advanced pressure monitoring systems. We operate separate Medical ICU (MICU) and Surgical ICU (SICU) zones, as well as a Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) for post-MI and cardiac surgery patients.

Family communication is prioritised through scheduled update calls, designated meeting times with the treating intensivist, and a comfortable family waiting area with patient status displays.

2 How It Works

1

ICU Admission

Patients are transferred to ICU from Emergency, OT (post-surgery), or ward when critical care monitoring is required.

2

Initial Assessment

The intensivist performs a comprehensive ABCDE assessment and establishes monitoring — ECG, SpO2, NIBP, CVP, temperature.

30–60 min
3

Care Plan

A multidisciplinary care plan is established including ventilation strategy, vasopressors, nutrition, antibiotics, and investigations.

4

Continuous Monitoring

Parameters are monitored 24/7. Nurses chart hourly vitals, fluid balance, and neurological status. Alarms are responded to instantly.

5

Daily ICU Rounds

The intensivist and a multidisciplinary team do daily rounds — twice daily for unstable patients. Family is briefed at fixed hours.

6

Step-Down / Discharge

As the patient stabilises, they are stepped down to a High Dependency Unit (HDU) or ward before final discharge.

4 Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, we follow a structured visitation policy — typically 15–30 minutes twice daily. This balance allows rest for critically ill patients while supporting family involvement.
Average ICU stay varies from 2–3 days for post-surgical monitoring to several weeks for complex multi-organ failure. Your intensivist will guide you based on your specific case.
We maintain a minimum 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio in general ICU, and 1:1 for the most critical patients requiring active ventilation or vasopressor support.
Most major health insurance policies cover ICU admissions. Our insurance team will process cashless approvals and guide you on coverage limits.
